| General Information about Summer League and Fall Ball |
| We have had parents ask us about the different formats for Summer League and Fall Ball, and what levels of players they both benefit, and the cost for the sessions. So, we wanted to take this opportunity to answer these questions on our site, so that everyone can benefit from the answer. Bay Area Summer Leagues run only once a week, which means about 9 sessions, and costs around $225; thats $25 per session! Summer League in the Concord area, runs for 10 sessions and still costs $200, making it $20 a session. When you do the math for SLC, you will see that we have worked it out so that you pay only $10 per session. In previous years, after the season would end in May, we would get flooded with emails from parents who children saw the game and were interested in trying it out. We created Summer League so that these players had an opportunity to learn the basic skills necessary to see if they liked the game. We also wanted to provide an environment for experienced players that allowed them to work on those skills under new and different coaching. Summer League benefits players of all levels because it takes you back to the basics of the game. These skills learned, and practiced, at Summer League, are the same basic skills that Major League Lacrosse players practice in their off-season. It doesn't matter you level of play, you are never too good to work on the basics. Fall Ball then seemed like the next natural choice in the progression of learning the game play needed to show off your newly polished skills. We wanted to put something together that would focus on how to appropriately use the basic skills, learned at Summer League, in game and scrimmage situations. During Fall Ball, players are put onto teams into order to compete throughout the league. Players are given the chance to play with different players, from different school teams, and work on the skills from the Summer. It is extremely important for young players, especially new ones, to learn the rules and of game, along with the strategy of the game as well. During Fall Ball, players will work on the offense, defense and the plays/stratgies that the coaches will teach them. During the games, coaches will mostly ref on the field, but they will provide some teaching as well; correcting errors and promoting safe and productive game play. Although most parents of new players don't love to hear this, the best way to get your child into the game is to put them directly into a game. Being in game situations, such as Fall Ball, is the only way to learn how to play the game of lacrosse. This is why we choose to run Summer League and Fall Ball as a grouping; players would learn the skills needed to play during Summer League, and, without a laps in time, begin to practice those skills and learn the aspects of the game during Fall Ball. With our Summer League to Fall Ball construction, players are well prepared to start their season, fully equipped with their basic skills as well as game strategy. |
| SLC will have a Beginners Time Slot during Fall Ball in conjunction with the local free beginners clinics at Phoenix Field SLC is excited to add additional time for beginners during this year's Fall Ball.
